The Itinerary.
Example of 14 days in 'heaven on earth'
Day 1
Arrive at Srinagar Airport, once you collect your baggage you will be met outside the terminal by a Kashmir Powder Tours crew member. We will then drive you the 52km to Gulmarg and your Hotel. A warm Kashmiri Kahwa tea is part of the hospitality that will greet you. Once you have had some time to settle into your room the group will have a meet and greet dinner with your guide. This allows us to get you familiar with the village and mountain operations.
Day 2
On your first morning, we will run through the avalanche safety equipment that all clients are required to wear whilst on the mountain. This includes transceiver searches, probing and shovelling techniques.
Riders new to the backcountry will find this a learning experience while those more knowledgeable will be able to brush up on their skills. This is also a good chance for the guide to see your snowboarding/skiing abilities too.
Then we get into the good stuff, POWDER HUNTING! Your guide will have a plan for the group dependent on current weather and snow conditions.
Day 3-7
Ride as much as you can. The Kashmir Powder Tours team will be assessing weather and snow conditions on a daily basis then tailoring the riding to your groups abilities.
Most of the decision making revolves around that morning's avalanche forecast.
Day 8
This is a day of rest for both you and your guide. You are free to spend it how you please, wander around the village, check out the abandoned hotel or take up the option of a Srinagar City Tour. (This day can be moved around to suit each group and the snow conditions)
Day 9-13
Ride as much as you can. At this stage, you will be used to the altitude and your crew should be in the groove.
Your guide will have an understanding of the dynamics of the group and be working hard to make sure you get the best snow Gulmarg has to offer.
Day 14
Your last day in Gulmarg. You will go and ride in the morning then late afternoon we will take you to Srinagar and the houseboat on Dal Lake.
A short Shikara ride and you will be aboard your floating home for the night, surrounded by ornate Kashmiri woodwork.
Day 15
An early morning Shikara ride on the lake followed by breakfast, then a short drive through Srinagar to the Airport.
Let the crying commence. But don’t be too sad, there is always the next time!
